About Vermont Marijuana Tax
While food and beverages are generally exempt from Vermont's sales tax, changes were made to the definition of food and food ingredients in order to exclude cannabis products in order to allowing the state to charge the general sales tax on all purchases of marijuana and marijuana products.
There is a 14% excise tax on recreational marijuana payed by the purchaser at the time of the retail sale, which is separate from the general sales tax.
