Medical marijuana is legal in Arkansas and is subject to a cannabis sales tax of 6.50%. There is also a 4% cannabis excise tax on all sales of medical marijuana in Arkansas.


Medical marijuana is legal in Texas , but there is no cannabis sales tax on it. There is no cannabis excise tax charged on medical marijuana in Texas.

Louisiana legalized medical marijuana in 2016. This law was passed using Senate Bill 261 (Alison Neustrom Act); House Bill 286 . The official name for this law is the Therapeutic Use of Marijuana La. R.S. 40:1046

No, medical marijuana patients are not allowed to grow marijuana for medicinal use a home.

Unlike other states, Louisiana does not permit home-grow of marijuana for any reason. The Louisiana legislature has authorized only two agricultural centers, Louisiana State University (GB Sciences of Louisiana, LLC) and Southern University (Advanced Biomedics, LLC) to be legal growers of medical marijuana in Louisiana.

Marijuana must be dispensed from a licensed pharmacy located in Louisiana. The Louisiana Board of Pharmacy must issue a license for a pharmacy to dispense therapeutic use marijuana, but can issue no more than 10 licenses.

The only forms of cannabis that can be dispensed are tincture, topical, edible, and metered-dose format. Raw or smokable forms of marijuana cannot be sold. As of Jan. 1, 2022 Louisiana will allow the dispensing of 2.5 oz of raw or crude marijuana every 14 days to an individual patient. The therapeutic use of marijuana provisions expire Jan. 1, 2025.

As of January 1, 2022 patients under the age of 21 can be prescribed raw or crude marijuana provided they have a recommendation specifically for that form from a licensed physician.
