The US Department of State issues a special tax exemption card to the members of certain diplomatic missions which allows them to make purchases without paying sales tax. However, these cards alone do not entitle the holder for sales tax exemption in New York. In addition to presenting the tax exemption card, the holder should also submit to the vendor a completed copy of the ÒCertificate of Sales Tax Exemption for Foreign MissionsÓ. Completing the certificate is easy. Simply download it from here, fill it in, and give it to the vendor at the point of sale.
